***River Muscles (Story included if you have the time)

As we walked toward the river I could hear the spirits chattering in the caves across the bank. They were in a strange language but somehow I understand the words over the roar of the cascading water. They were snippets of sound, like flights of birds darting about.

So we sat awhile and simply enjoyed watching and listening to the flexing of the river's muscles surging past.

It was not long before I realized that the river was surging to a deep rhythm perhaps an ancient drum beat from when the world was younger and the voices that reached out from the caves were actually singing a song in beautiful deep tones. The melody was haunting yet somewhat familiar and when I turned off my English and listened to the song in the language of Nature, I understood.

Sometimes I forget that we speak Nature fluently...

On the banks of this river, I felt small, a single human striving to breathe in the fire of life and hoping to slow time down so I could soak in the clamoring beauty of the symphony that echoed in this terrain.

For this was not a serene moment. The sounds and movement were roaring past me in an endless torrent of possibilities and I wanted to taste every one!

So I perched on one of the rocks for awhile and thought I could perch here for hours. But I am a mortal and realized that no matter how long I listened, the song would simply never end!

I didn't want to interrupt the symphony, but there was no time set aside for me to stand up in an ovation and shout "Hurrah!" Nor any intermission. In fact, there was no moment available to exit gracefully.

So eventually, being the human that I am with other commitments knocking on my door and a cramp in my right thigh ... I left in the middle of another amazing orchestral suite pounding through the forest and rolling down the hills. Still I cheered aloud hoping that someone that mattered might listen.

When I look back at this photo, I can still hear the surging sounds of the river rushing past to a glorious rhapsody and feel assured that even though I am not there, the music is still playing to an adoring audience!
