Lionel Messi has hailed his Copa del Rey title as a special one

Lionel Messi has revealed his delight at lifting his first trophy as Barcelona captain with the Copa del Rey's success against Athletic Club Bilbao.

 

Messi turned in yet another fantastic performance against the Basque giants with two late goals putting the gloss on a four-nil victory at Estadio de la Cartuha.

 

 

 

 

 

However, with the Catalan side without a major title since 2019 Messi has had to wait to get his hands on a trophy since replacing Andres Iniesta as the club captain.

 

Messi went on to express his thoughts at the press conference and revealed that being the captain of Barcelona was an honour to him and to be able to lift the Copa del Rey title as the captain was indeed special for him.

 

“Now not being able to celebrate this win with the people and the fans in the stadium was a shame,” said; Messi.

 

Messi also echoed Ronald Koeman's comments regarding Barcelona's intention to continue to battle for a la Liga and Copa del Rey domestic double this season.

 

 

 

 

 

Barcelona has eight games left in the league but they are trailing behind Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Now whether Barcelona can pull off a domestic double or not is yet to be seen but as for now

 

surely, Barcelona has at least one trophy in a difficult year in the back it is the Copa del Rey.
