Sludge 365 Days (Year 7) #200½ 05/21

We were working on a water pump that was choked full of what is called "sludge". It's actually lime sludge that is a byproduct of my city's water treatment plant. Lime is used to soften natural groundwater and the sludge is what's left over. This yellow chalky stuff has more in common with plaster then just regular sand. The pump had to be totally flushed out for it to work properly.

It seems that the guys use this pump to transfer the sludge. When finished they are supposed to flush out the pump. When they don't it hardens like concrete. And then they wonder why the pump wont start the next day.
