heading out to sea

for most it was time spent in the Navy but for me it was

four years that counted as "interrupted railroad service"

because it was between the time that I spent

on the Milwaukee Road and on the Burlington Northern

and so said the US Railroad Retirement Board as they credited me with a part of the time that I served in places

far away from my home and the land that I love
