Nothing can better exemplify the drastic shift of motive power on the eastern end of the former MEC better than these CSX ET23DCM's-- rebuilt SD40-2's with GE prime movers built to obtain Tier 4 emission standards. Here, 1727 and 1721 sit in NMJ on February 9th, awaiting a run to Mattawamkeag in the coming hours. Interestingly enough, they are waiting on power control to come up from Waterville after hitting something that damaged the front plow (presumably during the eastbound trip earlier in the day), the solution coming in the form of a cutting torch to take off the damaged section.
