This is a Gigabit Ethernet Controller made by Realtek. The package had 48 pins.
Midway between the middle of the die on the right hand vertical side "PL2A" as well as some other illegible text is inscribed.
I used the ring light for this shot, as well as Autopano Giga for stitching. Autopano is much more picky about the input images than Microsoft Image composite editor (ICE), but it produces much higher quality results. Unfortunately I must use ICE in structured panorama mode for any chip with large areas of repeating patterns, since they confuse Autopano.
This is a composite of 52 images taken by a pixel 2XL from a microscope at 100X. The images had 65% overlap and were stitched together in Autopano Giga.
