I deliberately wanted to show the contradiction in the architecture of the two buildings. I consider Hans Hollein one of the greatest Austrian architects of the 20th century and have admired his controversial design from the beginning. How can you build against a Gothic cathedral? Against the landmark of Vienna, the Austrian national shrine? No matter what you do, it will be used against you.
I think mirroring them is a brilliant idea.
Ich wollte bewusst den Widerspruch in der Architektur der beiden Bauten darstellen. Ich halte Hans Hollein für einen der größten österreichischen Architekten des 20. Jahrhunderts und habe seinen umstrittenen Entwurf von Anfang an bewundert. Wie soll man gegen eine gotische Kathedrale anbauen? Gegen das Wahrzeichen Wiens, das österreichische Nationalheiligtum? Egal was du machst, es wird gegen dich verwendet werden. Sie zu spiegeln halte ich für eine geniale Idee.
