Cuenca

Cuenca is a city and municipality located about 140 km southeast of Madrid, province of Cuenca, in the autonomous community of Castilla–La Mancha.

Built by the Moors in a defensive position at the heart of the Caliphate of Cordoba, Cuenca is an unusually well-preserved medieval fortified city. Conquered by the Castilians in the 12th century, it became a royal town and bishopric endowed with important buildings, such as the famous "Casas Colgadas" (hanging houses) 15th Century, that appear suspended over the cliffs edge overlooking the Huécar river.

... and if you travel to Cuenca, don't forget to try the traditional local dish "Morteruelo"!
