POV-Ray Garage 3.1

I added an additional 320 frames and squeezed them between the previous segments. This one shows the finished garage.

I don't recall where I found the 1965 T-Bird or who created it. I had those T-Bird files on an old drive that dates back to 2007 (or before). Anyway, kudo's to the creator of the T-Bird. I'll take credit for the garage. 😜

Here's a 65 T-Bird for sale

I found a sample demo file in POV-Ray that uses a spline to simulate a fly-through. Like a gnats-eye view. Pretty cool. So, I created my own spline to map a path through my garage.

It's hard to believe this software has been around for 30 years. The initial release was in 1991 and I've tinkered around with it for almost that long. POV-Ray requires you to write code to create objects, shapes, textures, etc. in 3D space. It's a little overwhelming at first, but the results are so gratifying it keeps you in a perpetual state of blissful creativity.

Since the POV-Ray files are saved as plain text you can create a program using languages like C++ or Visual Basic to automatically generate POV-Ray scene files. That could make an extremely powerful application.

The dude sitting inside the garage is apparently named "Don" as the object filenames imply. I'm not sure where or when I found these files either. I think Don was created using an old version of Poser but I'm not sure. Another kudo's to Don's creator, whoever you are.

I settled on 23 frames per second (fps) which appears to be adequately smooth but requires a lot of frames. This animation has a total of 1130 frames. That's a lot of processor time, probably 10-12 hours using my 11 year-old Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Pentium Dual-Core T4500 @ 2.3 GHz with 3 GB of RAM.

It's a good way to make sure the fan in your computer is working properly. 😁

If a picture is worth 1000 words, then this 48 second animation is worth over 1 million although it can be described with one or two, or possibly a noise from those who could care less.
