Early morning on a dull 30th September 1983 at Whittle colliery, Northumberland, N.C.B. North Eastern area.
Not the best shot in low light of ex B.R. class 10 D4068, carrying the number 56, moving internal user 21 tonners.
The driver saw the two of us taking a picture, braked and leaned out saying if we stayed there while he placed the wagons, he'd stop on the way back and take us to the loco shed. WOW!
That he did, and we nailed some VERY rare track, and saw the other class 10 in the shed, D4069, that being the main reason for our trip ..... seeking out as many ex B.R. locos as we could.
One noticeable thing was how friendly the N.C.B. rail staff were at these North East locations.
At Derek Crouch's site at Widdrington, they even made us a cup of tea.
