The Restless Stitcher
Hexagon Mug Rug
About 4 years ago I was handed a small bag of hexagons by a fellow quilter. I don't quite remember the story of where she got them- either they were donated to the thrift store that she volunteers at, or they were made by a friend who passed away and she was helping the family sort out her craft material. Either way, I have no idea who made them.
While I was touched that she thought of me, I was very dubious about these hexagons. I prefer to cut my own so that I can be sure of the fiber content, and so that I can prewash and colour test the fabric. The hexagons went into a drawer and stayed there until the Covid pandemic hit. It encouraged me to tackle some unfinished projects, and to use what I have.
I had it pieced and hand quilted months ago, but I didn't like that one of the hexagons was a bit puckered. A few weeks ago I decided that I did not love this project enough to requilt it, so I went ahead and put a binding on. Either it will be a mug rug, or it will sit under a vase.
I hope that this lady would be happy to know that her hexagons found a good home, and have been made into something useful.
