Skull Box Pouches

When I started cross stitching again last winter, I needed a bag to keep my thread and tools in. I used a grocery bag, but it was an imperfect solution. So, I scoured the internet for a pattern or tutorial that would solve my problem. Eventually I found something by Tilda on her website (Tildas World). She has a whole bunch of delightful patterns that are free for download. The toiletries bag pattern has instructions for 3 different sizes- these are the medium and large sizes.

I like the dimensions, but I have a few little issues with the design. My search for the perfect pattern continues. Mostly I liked the price (free! wahoo!), and that it used materials I already had. It just required fabric, thread, batting, and a zipper. I had the correct size zippers in red and black, and chose fabrics to match. The batting was an 80/20 scrap. I used spray baste to keep the layers together, traced lines at half inch intervals with a chalk pencil, then stitched the lines with cotton thread.

Aren't the fabrics fun? The black one gets linty very easily, but I love the print. Both fabrics were left over from projects (the red from a dress, and the black from a quilt backing).
