Student Art Show, Downtowne Bookstore, Riverside California, April 25th 2024

Tonight Jules and I went to Downtowne Bookstore at downtown Riverside, California (in the Mission Inn area) for an art show of local students from Jurupa Valley School District.

Also on hand were Congressman Mark Takano and renowned L.A. based artist Kadir Nelson, whose work hangs in the nation’s capitol.

Nelson also told his own story of winning two student art shows before his work graced the US capitol, The New Yorker magazine, as well as album covers for Michael Jackson.

Jules and I visited the Downtowne Bookstore only a year or so ago and it’s been completely renovated by proud new owner Dr Jungmiwha Bullock, Nelson’s wife, who has really turned the place around! It’s got all kinds of new books, structural upgrades and even t-shirts, mugs, bookmarks and other related merch. I’m definitely coming back soon!

Also had the pleasure of meeting some of Jules’ talented students and their proud families. The winner’s work (to be decided by Rep. Takano) will be seen in the capitol, while the runner-up’s work will hang in Takano’s office. Hard to beat a night that included art, books, nice people, great food and local talent.

If you’re in the Riverside California area, do yourself a favor and check out Downtowne Bookstore, at 3582 Main St. Riverside California, 92501. Phone # 951-682-1082, online at downtownebookstore.com

It’s in the rear of the building, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see it right away.
