The Great One
'Albert' himself..... but a different take, before sunrise.
I drove from 1 am and arrived at Bempton at 5am on this morning, with him having flown out to sea the previous day and not seen in the evening before, so my hopes weren't high. I was actually geared up to shoot video on this day.
I arrived at Staple Newk at around 5.30 with my partner having stopped initially at Rollup viewpoint to view, but no sighting in the dim light there. I began recording a soundtrack over the cliff and suddenly, there he was and I gave out a mad cry of 'The Albatross'..... this was the third time my partner had travelled with me to see it but as yet with no success! Well, today she was in luck!..... just the two of us with him before sunrise as he made his normal looping approaches to his roosting spot. I managed to capture some video and in fact only had the 300mm on for this. A ridiculously low shutter speed, but I liked the result anyway..... it seems to make him even more graceful.
He landed out of view and that was it for about 7 hours before he appeared again and did a flyby all along the cliff, midway up, from the east. Many had gathered by this time and there was the usual good humoured banter amongst us all. Another great day.
Many thanks to those who take the time to view, fave and/or comment on some of my images.
