La Lavande, Plateau Valensole - Provence

I lived not far from here for a few years and so was lucky to be able to photograph the Lavender fields early in the morning. It's a sight difficult to convey the gravity of.... miles and miles (literally) of fragrant Lavender. But, caution... once the sun rises, the drone of the thousands of bees becomes very apparent. I was able to walk between the rows at this hour, but not to be recommended during the day time. These flowers are harvested just prior to full-bloom in order to extract the maximum oil which apparently is a remedy for many illnesses, colds and ailments. I wonder how it would cope with Covid-19?... It is impossible to describe the fragrance from these huge fields as you drive or walk through them - it's something you just have to experience. If you think you've seen lavender fields in the UK, then these, surrounding Valensole are on a different scale altogether.

Once we come out of this 'lockdown' add it to your Bucket List if it's not already on it.

Stay healthy and safe!
