Golden shores

The wild northern coast of Tenerife is my favorite area on the island. While the beautiful Teide volcano or the impressive Los Gigantes cliffs in the south attract more tourists, I've personally always been drawn to the lush slopes and towering cliffs of Anaga. I think that this place kind of reminds me of tales I used to read as a child of far-away islands with sharp peaks, remote jungles and big sea stacks. The conditions were perfect on that evening, with a sky full of large fluffy clouds and heavy winds creating hazy conditions around the cliffs in which the sun could created nice rays of light. I shot this picture last January (2025) using the endemic Cardon cactus as a foreground, because it provides a sort of frame for the bottom of the image as well as nice leading lines pointing up towards the cliffs. Surprisingly, there was only one bush of it growing on that whole slope, whereas I usually saw it in large colonies on most of Tenerife.
