Whiskeytown Fire Module

The Whiskeytown Fire Module descending the stairs from the Ross Lake Dam to the Ross Lake Boathouse.

NIMO Teams are often mobilized to manage remote fires with complex logistics. The Chilliwack Complex of fires are located in remote wilderness areas along the U.S.-Canadian Border in the northwest corner of North Cascades National Parks Complex in Washington state.

Fifteen Wildland Module firefighters were inserted into the remote Hozomeen area at the north end of Ross Lake to conduct structure protection assessments on cabins and other structures. The voyage to get them to their insertion point involved; a drive to a boat launch, a ferry a cross a lake to another boat dock, a truck ride up a steep hill to a second dam, and a nearly 3 hour boat transport to a remote wilderness camp.

Photo depicts four crew members carrying large packs and tools walking down a set of metal stairs.
