This unique Snake Temple at Sungei Kluang, nine mimles from the city of George Town, is well known internationally for the Pit Vipers that twine around the altars, joss urns, candlesticks, ornamental prayer tables and vases. The temple was built in 1850 in honour of the Chinese deity, Chor Soo Kong, notes for his healing powers. Contrary to popular belief, the snakes are not worshipped but are venerated because of their kinship to the mythical dragons of Chinese folklore.
