CP 423-07 on October 7th, 2023 was supposed to be normal. When the power planners looked at what's available, they selected a CP AC44, KCS Gevo, and 2 CP SD40-2s, along with some manifest and empty ballast bound for Sudbury. The problem with this plan is it was dependant on the 2 lead units making their way into Toronto on 104 before 423 went on duty. 104 ended up getting stuck behind a slower southbound CWR (CP 9014S) and when 423 went on duty, 104 was still in Vaughan IT putting its train away. The crew said "oh well, we'll take what we have" and the rest is history. CP 5901 and CP 5871 had no issues taking care of 423, running the 50 mile stretch from Howland to Baxter in about 70 minutes. Fortunately, I did it in 65. Two SD40s on a manifest looks more like 2013 than 2023!
