Nickel discovery
When the Canadian Pacific Railway was being constructed through the area in the early 1880s, a reddish rock was discovered. When tested, trace amounts of copper-nickle sulphide were present. Subsequently, multiple mines were created to take advantage of the rich nickel and copper deposits in the region. 140 years later, the mining continues in earnest as the Levack job brings a loaded nickel ore train towards the siding at Sprecher as they near the final destination of the Clarabelle mill.
