Bees in Lavender
by keitht5
The back of our property is lined with lavender bushes and when in flower end of June the bees come out like it's a black friday event. I spent the entire afternoon in pursuit of the perfect shot. I could not count on auto focus reliably among so many branches so these were all manual focus - but very very fast manual focus - the bees tended to visit each flower for just under 3 seconds so when i found a good subject i aimed - composed the angle - then counted down from 3 while twirled the manual focus ring and snapped before he disappeared. It took a lot of experimenting in the beginning to get the camera right settings. One thing i was guaranteed from the beginning was some colorful shots. I did achieve my perfect shot - last one one the end - a bee in mid flight with its pouches full of nectar. one happy bee - one happy photographer.
