North America had become a wasteland of dust and sand dunes and its population had dropped by almost 25%. Mexico was overrun by anarchy, its government was replaced by criminals and attacked the US. It was quickly shut down and destroyed. The citizens were annexed by the US. Canada, failing to maintain its survival, was annexed by the US. During this period of time, US citizens were repeatedly attacked by terrorists, and crime threatened to do what it did to Mexico. Until it could find a permanent solution, the US government provided weapons to the citizens and required each state to have an organized militia. The weapon they provided was built with efficiency and simplicity in mind. They designed a right side fed magazine rifle, chambered in 5.56, that could be easily modified by anybody who knew anything about guns or metalworking; left side fed guns were made as well. People could modify the gun to be almost whatever they wanted it to be, a sniper rifle, an assault rifle, a sub-machine gun. It was especially compatible with M4 style parts. It would later go on to be used by citizens and militiamen during the US migration to occupy Eastern Europe, after which, the US becomes the European Republic.
