Apple of My Eye
"Apple of My Eye", 2019.
Done in mixed media, using marker and colored pencil.
For this portrait, I was motivated to create a portrait inspired by an idiom. I felt as though this idea had potential to derive a deeper meaning to an often cliched saying, so I chose "apple of my eye" to become my subject matter. "Apple of my eye" is a saying used to describe a person who feels a strong significance towards someone or something. In this portrait, I chose to depict a woman to touch on the nurturing aspect of this idiom. The bare, golden skin helps to provide a pleasant mood within the piece. The apple is gently held in front of her eye to re-establish the homely mood. I used warm tones throughout the piece to again aid to this overall mood. I rendered this drawing using colored pencils and markers.
