I carried one of these for many years. The Palm Pilot was the name of the first generation of personal digital assistants manufactured by Palm Computing in 1996 (by then a division of U.S. Robotics). It was the first wildly popular handheld computer. Its success helped bridge the previously separate worlds of the electronic organizer, the PC, and later, the smart phone. The Palm Pilot succeeded by redefining the handheld as an accessory to the personal computer, not its replacement. While it was revolutionary in its time, offering a portable digital organizer and personal information management system, the Palm Pilot eventually became obsolete due to the rapid advancements in mobile technology. Manufacturing was discontinued in 2011.
