Butylated hydroxyanisole, or BHA, is a potentially harmful preservative commonly found in pet foods . BHA is featured on the list of Known Carcinogens and Reproductive Toxicants from California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. It can be responsible for kidney damage in both dogs and humans.

 

While BHA was found to be safe in some cases, certain studies found this ingredient linked to breast cancer and testicular cancer .
