Hieroglyph
White Pocket is a place of infinite complexity and depth. The semi-periodic "brain rock" is the signature texture of this place. Upon closer inspection, the rocks wear intricate undulating patterns reminiscent of Egyptian hieroglyphs or perhaps letters from an extraterrestrial alphabet. This image combines a macroscopic hero that sits in between two rock bulges, the iconic and healthy pine Tree, with a mysterious message written in stone. To get this perspective, I had to lay down on the ground holding the camera a few centimeters above the rock, holding also my breath as I tried to remain as still as possible while focus stacking.
For a while, I contemplated whether this should be a grayscale image but decided that the color adds a touch of Earth with the browns introduced by a recent rain shower, a sprinkle of greens on the Tree, and some shy blues in the still-too-bright-to-shoot sky.
Nikon Z7, 14-35mm f4, 1/200 sec., f10, ISO 125, 16.5mm, hand-held focus stack of five images.
