Camouflaged European Mantis!!
A Camouflaged European Mantis!! When I was pruning the spent Red Hot Poker spikes, I saw movement. This fat female European Mantis crawled up one of the reeds. She looks like she is going to be laying her eggs soon.The female bites the head off the male during or after mating. She then eats him, as he is his providing the female with a vital soure of nutrients for her eggs. Photo taken in our backyard in Camas, Washington.
