Paris-Hamburg sleeping car compartment, 22 Oct 1988

The compartment is set up for single occupancy. As sleeping compartments go, this is quite roomy. The wood panelling in this 1950's sleeper gives a feeling of warmth but looks somewhat dated, even in 1988. On the left is the wash basin with my wash bag on top; the lid folds back to reveal a basin with hot and cold taps. Beneath is a compartment containing a chamber pot which, when closed, empties the contents on to the track. In the centre, the blind conceals the window for privacy at night. On the right, the upper berth used for double occupancy has been folded away behind the short strip-light.
