What is Sleep? Importance of Sleep | Amount of sleep for Teenager

When you wake up in the morning, how do you feel?
Do you feel refreshed and ready to go?
Or do you feel sluggish and groggy, and maybe even grumpy?
And this stat right here is crazy:
According to the CDC,
Only 1/3rd of adults actually get the recommended minimum of seven or more hours of sleep every night.
( Average amount of sleep for teenagers | Amount of sleep for teenager | Amount of sleep a teenager needs )
The most common reason for this is trouble falling or staying asleep, aka insomnia.
This could be related to stress. It can also be related to too much caffeine (coffee) or alcohol, or side effects from medication. It could also be related to other habits that you don’t even realize.
But there are other medical conditions that could be the root cause of the problem, like sleep apnea and depression.
Whatever the reason, not getting good sleep takes its toll on your overall well-being and hugely impacts your productivity.
And not getting good sleep impacts your life in so many ways.
Some takeaways from this video:
1. Deep sleep, which occurs is Non REM sleep is especially important for body repair.
2. REM sleep is especially important for learning, memory formation, and optimal brain power.
3. In order to maximize deep sleep and REM sleep duration, you need at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
4. Your internal clock is regulated by itself, but also by external factors like a light. If you can, follow your internal clock, which means go to bed when its dark, and wake up when its daylight.
