Comet 12p/Pons-Brooks 01/06/2024 - Explored June 3, 2024

Comet 12P/Pons–Brooks is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 71 years. It is currently in the constellation of Lepus, at a distance of 231,282,371 kilometers from Earth.

We captured this image on a cold dark clear moonless night in the middle of central Victoria, Australia. It is interesting to see the difference in the tail and ion trail in the 3 weeks since my last image of Pons-Brooks. There are also a number of very small galaxies present in the image.

Stacked and processed using PixInsight.
