a pink bike in amsterdam
On Saturday, I accompanied my oldest son for some information gathering and window shopping in the city's different bike shops. It was fun. We looked at both used and new. He's interested in participating in a triathlon later this year and needs to get a road bike to train on (he also wants to start riding to school, which I'm not crazy about because we live in a tricky part of the city with traffic and hills). So I guess you could say that's what influenced the sharing of this picture, which I made in Amsterdam last summer.
There are a lot of bikes in Amsterdam! I consider myself a savvy person when it comes to blending but I still had a handful of people tut-tutting at me the night I took this, I kept accidentally walking into bike paths. I found Amsterdam exhilarating but chaotic. I'd dearly like to go back and visit the city, just by itself. We were barely there. It was more of a layover, between Berlin and the UK.
For the chance to walk around and take pictures, I skipped dinner with my family and had nothing to eat later except for some nuts, adding to an epic case of travel-related constipation I'd acquired due to eating like a bird the day before (it was going to be a long train ride, the lavatories on trains are infinitely better than on airplanes but I still just wanted to stay in my seat as much as possible). Later, I was too tired from walking around to go out and find something proper to eat and we had to get up early the next morning and catch another train so I went to sleep with a growly stomach. Surprisingly, these couple of days were the only time during our entire visit to Europe that I had that sort of "problem". As such, Amsterdam stands out in my mind, haha!
