Whirlpool Galaxy M51
This is an example of a collision between two galaxies, the whirlpool galaxy M51 and it’s companion. In the image, Whirlpool galaxy is tearing apart the other smaller galaxy by gravitational forces. This collision is encouraging star formation in Whirlpool galaxy and birth of young stars. The galaxy is 15 million light years away. The image is taken by two telescopes. Gear setup: Celestron Edge HD 8 @ f/7, Guided by Celestron OAG with ZWO 174 MM, ZWO 2600MC @ 0, Antlia Ultra Narrowband filter, Lights 40 x 180 sec. Explore Scientific 102 @ f/6, ZWO 2600 MC @ 0, ZWO Mini guide scope & ZWO 120MM-S, Optolong L-Pro 2”, Lights 120 x 180 sec, Darks 20, Flats 20, Bias 50. Total exposure 8 hours.
