The aluminum man in a suit is standing in the Crooswijksesingel
In de Crooswijksesingel, bij de Noorderbrug, staat een man in het water. Met zijn broekspijpen opgerold tot aan zijn knieën en zijn handen in zijn zakken kijkt hij in de richting van de Rotte. Maar wat doet hij daar eigenlijk?
Het kunstwerk heet Waterstand en is in 2002 gerealiseerd door Buro MA.AN. De aluminium man staat daar in de singel om het waterpeil in de gaten te houden. De grachten in Rotterdam zijn er om het water op te vangen en te beheersen. Waterschap Schieland zorgt hiervoor en het kunstwerk van Buro MAAN besteedt hier aandacht aan. De man wacht op het stijgende water. Hij kijkt naar een RVS pijp die uit de Rotte komt en het water stroomt dan over een stenen watertrap de Crooswijksesingel in.

The artwork is called Waterstand and was realized in 2002 by Buro MA.AN. The aluminum man stands there in the girth to keep an eye on the water level. The canals in Rotterdam are there to collect and control the water. Waterschap Schieland takes care of this and the artwork of Buro MAAN pays attention to this. The man waits for the rising water. He looks at a stainless steel pipe that comes out of the Rotte and the water then flows over a stone water staircase into the Crooswijksesingel.
