nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watertoren_(Rotterdam_De_Esch)

The old water tower of Rotterdam in De Esch was designed by architect C.B. van der Tak and was built in 1871-1873. A number of workshop halls also designed by him are part of the complex. Height is 48 meters, content 1000 m3 water.

This water tower is the oldest surviving water tower in the Netherlands. The water tower has a height of 48 meters and has seven water reservoirs. The tower had a water reservoir with a capacity of more than a million liters. This made the tower one of the largest water towers in the Netherlands. The tower is designed in an eclectic mix of Romanesque Revival, Neo-Renaissance and Oriental styles. Below the water reservoir were the residences of the staff of the water company who worked on the site.

When the water company moved to another location in 1978, the homes and workshops were replaced by a cooperative association, wood, metal workshop, photo studio and sound studio.

In 1986, Rotterdam Public Works renovated the tower. The water tank has been replaced by office spaces.

The tower currently houses a cafe and restaurant called De Watertoren. The top floor is used as an office. The tower is located on the Watertorenweg.

The water tower and outbuildings were recognized as a national monument in 1981.
