Berg Heimat Du....Du bringst mir die Ruh'....
You often come across them while hiking through the Dolomites and if you never been there before you think this is a road.
But appearances deceptive because after winter, this is a wildly churning river during the period when all the melt water rushes down from the mountain peaks, and to slow down the force of the churning water, they have placed large boulders and stones in the the bed of this dried-up river to slow down the force of the water so that it cannot flow with brute force towards the valleys.
Debris glaciers are a well-known phenomenon on the edges of the peaks and one of such glacier is visible on the left side behind the row of trees.
The water flowing down takes rocks and other stone debris with it on its way down.
In fact, their presence of this debris is a sign of the continuous erosion taking place in the Dolomites.
