Journey of a Feather #8148

Journey of a Feather #8148

Feathers are such innocent objects yet, they decorate our clothing, hats and language. I found this one floating in the water and thought it deserved to be captured by my camera. As I stared at the feather, my mind started to wonder…”What had it taken to get the feather to this spot?” How old was the bird that lost this feather? Did it drop out, or was the bird a tasty meal for a gator. Just where did this fluffy matter come from?

According to Wikipedia: Feathers are epidermal growths that form the distinctive outer covering, or plumage, on dinosaurs, both avian and non-avian, and possibly other archosauromorphs. They are considered the most complex integumentary structures found in vertebrates and a premier example of a complex evolutionary novelty.
