Explore #20: 15/02/2022 - 200 Not Out!

Avebury Stone Circle, Wiltshire

I thought I would post another image to mark my hitting 200 followers today - Thanks to Dom Haughton for that milestone and thanks to the other 199 as well😊.

After a lot of dull grey weather there was a forecast for frost last Friday and as I was working I needed somewhere close. I'd scouted Avebury a few weeks earlier. Unfortunately when I arrived there were already 2 Togs in the line of where I wanted to shoot so had to adjust my composition. Got a shot to the left of the stone then quickly relocated slightly to the right. Those who have followed me for a while know I like a sun-star!😆 It's a 5 exposure bracket for those interested.

Avebury henge and stone circles are one of the greatest marvels of prehistoric Britain. Built and much altered during the Neolithic period, roughly between 2850 BC and 2200 BC, the henge survives as a huge circular bank and ditch, encircling an area that includes part of Avebury village. Within the henge is the largest stone circle in Britain - originally of about 100 stones - which in turn encloses two smaller stone circles.

Avebury is part of an extraordinary set of Neolithic and Bronze Age ceremonial sites that seemingly formed a vast sacred landscape. If you want to know more about Avebury try www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/avebury/history/
