West Pica (repost)

A long eastbound train of doublestacked marine containers coasts through the curves approaching West Pica, descending the grade from Yampai Summit, Arizona. Soon the hogger will ease off the dynamic brakes, and let gravity and the 1.42% descending grade accelerate his train back to track speed down the eleven mile straightaway towards Seligman. The evening sun found its way through the hazy clouds to cast some neat side lighting on the train.

The inhabitant of the RV up on the hill in the background has one of the best views around, and will be able to watch trains sweep through the high speed curve at the base of the Yampai plateau all night.

The lead unit is BNSF 615, one of twenty ex-Santa Fe DC traction C44-9W units rebuilt and converted to AC traction motors with A1A configured axles. The pilot program has not yielded any further interest at BNSF to rebuild their large, yet shrinking fleet of Dash 9s.
