Quercus

Quercus - the genus of Oaks.

 

There was an entire bed of these oaklets - a half dozen feet in irregular radius where acorns must have piled on the forest floor, some giving it up as mulch, the other germinating with dreams of mighty oakwood.

One stood out. but time beyond mine will tell.
