Moss on Tree

Off of Jefferson St. on September 26th, I observed some moss growing on the roots of a large tree. The tree's cover creates an ideal environment for the moss to flourish in shade and high moisture. This is an example of commensalism which is a type of symbiotic relationship where only one species benefits. The moss does not benefit the tree an any way.
