Biking along the river Waal I saw several storks on nesting poles. Long time ago stork made nests on old church towers but many of those buildings have disappeared. In the 1970's the storks were almost extinct. Dutch people see storks as a symbol of fertility and good luck. They started building nesting poles. Because of these nesting poles, the storks arriving from Africa return every year to the same nesting poles.
