Hook Nose

Sculpted by wind, water and sun on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, this piece of driftwood reminded me of a spawning kokanee (sockeye) salmon. While Yellowstone Lake does not contain sockeye, it does support native cutthroat trout as well as an introduced population of lake trout, which are endangering the cutthroat. The National Park Service is engaged in an aggressive effort to remove lake trout from Yellowstone Lake.
