One of the World's largest living flower

Red leafy spathe with 6ft tall spadix, Titan Arum - Corpse Flower. The little rectangle in the bottom is an access port to the actual flowers residing in the base of the spadix. Pollen is harvested from this plant which is then stored. It is also shipped to other growers of this endangered plant for cross-pollinating other Alum flowers. The outer portion of what appears to be the flower's petals is actually a giant leaf. The flower itself is contained deep within the leaf bowl inside the central spike called a spadix. This plant exudes a corpse-like stench in order to attract pollinators to it. These plants bloom every few years for about 48 hours. This is one of 4 images in a series, showing examples of the Alum plant group.
