Toad tangle
Suddenly the weather has warmed up and so have pond activities. These busy toads were enjoying the early morning sun but not coping so well with the plastic mesh I put over the pond to protect it from cats. They did attempt to squeeze through a hole in the mesh which really isn't kind so once they all managed to get through it I then removed the mesh entirely which I discovered was woven all over by toad spawn laid by a previous group. I freed that too but might have to bring some of that indoors after Wednesday when Arctic air will once again be enveloping us. We have a prunus tree adjacent to the pond and petals are now dropping. I like the heart-shaped petal that is stuck to the female toad.
