A race against time

The last couple of days have been very mild, warm even, and the toads have arrived at the pond in force. I feel heartbroken for them though as last year's spawning was disastrously cold, few tadpoles surviving, and this spring is threatening to be even worse with Arctic air arriving tomorrow and snow forecast for Monday. These extreme temperature changes are surely NOT part of Mother Nature's plan and I feel obliged to step in and assist in these times of unnatural climate breakdown. The toads will have to hurry though and lay their spawn double quick so I can rescue it and bring it indoors to develop in a bucket in the conservatory where it will be frost free.
