Deck chairs on Southend beach
In the old days, a day trip to Southend-on-Sea would involve a walk on the pier, sitting in a deck chair on the beach wearing a funny hat, a paddle in the sea, spending money at the amusement arcades, a stick of rock, candy floss, ice cream, and a fish and chip lunch, or maybe even some jellied eels. These days, not so much, although being close to London does bring Londoners: who we call day-trippers.
