From the museum label: For many years, Léger is a leading figure of the Parisian avant-garde. With his mechanical forms in fragmented pictorial space, he is seen as an innovator. In the late 1920s, his idiom becomes calmer. He paints still lifes based on simple vase shapes and geometric structures. This work is from late in his career.
