1935, Wassily Kandinsky, Rigid and Curved (Rigide et courbé) -- National Museum (Oslo)

From the museum label:

In 1933, Kandinsky flees from Germany to Paris after the Nazis label his paintings as "entartet" (degenerate). There his art takes a new direction. The geometric compositions of the Bauhaus years are challenged by organic forms painted in vibrant pastels. Full of references to natural science, archaeology and myths, his pictures form complex narratives.

In 1936, the wealthy collector Solomon R. Guggenheim visits the artist and purchases Rigide et courbé for what would later become the Guggenheim Museum. In the 1960s, the museum sells the picture to a collector, and it vanishes from public view. After more than fifty years it resurfaces and is purchased in 2023 by Sparebankstiftelsen and brought to Norway.
