1932, Paul Klee, Children and Crows -- Courtauld Gallery (London)

From the museum label: Paul Klee's artistic practice celebrated childlike forms and a playful approach to line, both of which can be seen in this work. His interest reflected the Expressionist view that children were uncorrupted by the materialism of the modern world. This enthusiasm shaped his pedagogical approach during his time teaching at the Bauhaus art and design school, firstly in Weimar and then at Dessau, when he actively encouraged his students to engage in play as a way of developing their creative instincts.
