1838 (ca.), Utagawa Hiroshige, Tarui -- British Museum (London)

From the museum label: Midway through designing this series, Hiroshige left for a sketching trip along the Kisokaido. His sketch of Tarui only shows the buildings of the station. For this print, he added a samurai lord arriving in drizzling rain. The head of the station leads him and his entourage to their private inn. They pass teahouses decorated with colour woodblock prints.
